“Chains are Falling”

keys
keys to the Kingdom
the Kingdom is here
chains need to come off

normally
chains have locks
locks have keyholes
to be opened by keys

often
keys make me think of doors
but as I live my life
I realize I have keys

to open chains

chains of addiction
chains of pornography
chains of promiscuity
chains of rejection
chains of religion
chains of sin
chains of unworthiness
chains of unforgiveness

chains
that need to be opened
with the keys
of victory lived

“A Little of Everything”

I know what it’s like to be loved
I know what it’s like to be hated
I know what it’s like to be forgiven
I know what it’s like to be resented
I know what it’s like to be welcomed
I know what it’s like to be in the way
I know what it’s like to be remembered
I know what it’s like to be forgotten
I know what it’s like to taste fear
I know what it’s like to breathe faith
I know what it’s like

“Blindfolded”

when the bills are due and you’re just ‘not there’ yet
when everything you spend cuts into the rent
when your problems point to the promises

no need to worry
no need to fret

another opportunity
to trust
to believe
to listen
to move

walking by faith
leaving everything behind
discovering new land
to live in

“The Voice of Traffic”

a cop speeds ahead
on the highway
lights flashing
pacing across all lanes
stopping traffic

not doubt
for safety

the traffic slows
reluctantly
waiting to gun it
ready to pass
but heeding the warning

how many times
has the Holy Spirit
warned us to slow down
maybe stop
and we can’t wait to pass Him
