The weather looks different
when your friend lives in the park
the rain falls harder
the wind blows colder
the sun beats nearer
the heat burns hotter
the cold chills deeper
When your friend lives in the park
the weather looks different
The weather looks different
when your friend lives in the park
the rain falls harder
the wind blows colder
the sun beats nearer
the heat burns hotter
the cold chills deeper
When your friend lives in the park
the weather looks different
breathing
peace
sounds from the couch
what’s God doing to my heart
breathing
asleep
restful break from the park
a home to feel comfortable in
breathing
snoring
in clean clothes with a shave
another night spent in warmth
breathing
serenity
being accepted as-is
being loved and spoiled with food
breathing
resting
once a boy, now old man
a son and a father to others
breathing
coughing
life’s taken its toll
health that seems to be weak
breathing
waking
to realize time’s passed
the park awaits his presence
breathing
peace
sounds from the couch
what’s God doing to my heart
Standing, looking
all-you-can-eat
seeing choices
and being able to pick
a little bit here
and a little bit there
forms a mound
on the plate
when given the option
of chair or booth
he gladly said booth
for the cushion
when a man who lives outside
sits on a cushion
something happens
when a man without food
enjoys all-you-can-eat
something happens
when a man without a bed
sleeps on a couch
something happens
when a man without a home
takes a warm shower
something happens
Living without limits
Loving without boundaries
becoming like the One
Who lives in me
Beauty undefined
but known within
gently singing a song
of elegance
Heart unhindered
by the pains of the past
becoming love like the
Father inside
Loving without receiving
giving without wanting
hugging without needing
human contact
Mothering through heaven
caring for each soul
spending time, being
one with them
Trust not foreign
purity woven throughout
integrity, wholeness
joy abounds
Living without limit
Loving without boundaries
while God’s plan unravels
beneath each step
Normal was cussing
calling names
screaming
slamming doors
Normal was drinking
passing out
missing life
passing by
Normal was forgetting
not wanting to move
crying
over selfish desires
Normal was laughing
at work but
yelling
at home
Normal was darkness
without light
without hope
without love
and then I met Him
fell in love with my kids
encountered His Love
changed my mind
to create a NEW normal
FREEDOM
born once
die twice
born twice
die once
eternity happens
whether you
Believe or not
I never thought
anyone would want to read
what I had to say
I never thought
anyone would look at me
and see purity
I never thought
I’d look in the mirror
and like what I see
I never thought
I’d dance with flags
in front of a church
I never thought
I’d be able to sleep
without a drink
I never thought
I’d want my kids
to grow up like me
I never thought
I’d wait till my wedding day
to be kissed
I never thought
I’d ever start
my own business
I never thought
anyone would want to read
what I had to say
but Jesus knew it all
Not everything that has wings
flies
Not everyone that has breath
lives
Not everyone who smiles
laughs
Not everyone who sleeps
rests
Not everyone who sees
understands
Not everyone who hears
listens
I used to be a Christian on the outside
but inside
the truth was a lie
Honor
easier given
or received
Honor
not a bad thing
calls goodness to the front
Honor
releases
empowers
commissions
Honor
touches deep wounds
healing in love
Honor
fills hearts with joy
sings into every cell
Honor
creates a bond
deeper
than known before
Honor
continues to move
continues to raise up
Honor
easier given
or received
