In case you don’t know, Lee is a homeless man that I’ve become friends with over the last two weeks (I’ve sat with him three times), and on Friday, I invited him to have lunch with me on Monday, which was yesterday, and what an amazing time it was! It seems like it will be hard to put into words the wonderful lunch we had, but I will do my best to invite your heart to dance with mine. Continue reading

Words That Broke Silence
On Saturday, I was blessed to be a part of ACTIVATE, a workshop of loving people well. While there, you encounter amazing worship, hear amazing teachings on love, and hit the streets in teams to love others well. It’s really an incredible workshop, and on Saturday, a couple of our teams went to Carlsbad to pour out our love through God’s heart. Continue reading
A Date Set for Lunch
Aside from there being no clouds, yesterday was a beautiful day in San Diego, so I was looking forward to my time in Balboa Park. As I grabbed my flags, Holy Spirit told me to grab the four dollars out of my purse. I was so excited! I asked, “Do I get to see Lee?” It turned out, His answer was yes.
As I walked up the street, I paused and asked God where to go. He said, “Just walk. I’ll tell you who to go to,” so I walked. Right when I entered the park, I saw two gentlemen but wasn’t sure if they were together. One was juggling, which caught almost all my attention. The other was pacing at some points and circling the juggler at a distance but near. It was unusual, so I headed over. Continue reading
At the Scent of Jesus
What happens when you cut God off? I think I found out.
Yesterday morning, on my way to work, I was worshiping God and wondered where He would have me go at lunch. I heard the word ‘down.’ Immediately, I thought of walking down the street towards downtown and didn’t like that idea, so I ignored it, until later.
A Friend from the Past
Yesterday, as I was walking to Balboa Park on my lunch break, I was talking to God and asking the Holy Spirit where to go, where to sit, where to walk, and then, I listened and followed His lead, and wouldn’t you know it…amazing things happened.
The first area I sat in was at a distance from my usual spot. Where I was sitting, no one was walking near, but I could see people walking along the street…so many people. My heart’s desire was to sit down with every single one of them, but there was only one “me” and a whole lot of people. I began to soak in the Son by reading my bible, exploring trees in the Scriptures, praying throughout; when, all of a sudden, I “knew” it was time to move, and where to move was across the way. Will Not Return Void
Every day, when I go to work, that’s only part of my day. God has this amazing way of setting up encounters from the car into work, during my lunch, and from work to the car, and one of these encounters involved meeting a homeless man named Cedric.
The first time I met him, he appeared to be grumpy and didn’t want prayer. When I meet people like that, I continue to build a relationship with them, I just won’t offer prayer…won’t even talk about God, and then one day, all of that changed. Continue reading
Needs of the Heart
Last Sunday, as I was talking with the youth group, they were lit on fire. I was telling them about my walks in Balboa Park, how I meet people and pray for them. When they heard about the homeless people, they wanted to help. They asked if I would go around and ask them what they needed because the kids want to gather these things together and take them to them. Isn’t that beautiful! So, I went. Continue reading
To Never Be Alone
Yesterday morning, as I was walking up a slight hill towards work, I noticed a homeless man named Cedric walking down toward my direction from across the way. I hollered to him, and he hollered back. I turned the corner, and as I was walking, I could hear his shopping cart advancing at a quicker pace than my step, so I slowed down, so he’d be able to catch up, and he did. Continue reading
Hoping for a House Call
Yesterday in the park, God just brought people to me. I don’t know why it amazes me every time. It’s so His Character. He wants people to experience His nonjudgmental Love.
As soon as I sat down, I met a woman named Sandy. She was from Oakland (naturally blessed because she’s a Raiders fan). We began talking about her dog, her visit, her kids, and I told her what I do in the park daily. She liked that. Then, she opened up.
She told me that just the other day, she woke up with the thought that she’s wasted her life, that she hadn’t done well with the time that God had given her. I spoke into her heart how much God loves her, and that it’s never to late. When I asked if she’d like prayer for anything, she mentioned her son, who has an incurable sickness going on. Guess where he lives? Imperial Beach. I offered to go to him to pray over him. She said in surprise, “You’d do that?” I said, “Of Course!” She took my phone number for him. I hope he calls.
After I prayed for her, a homeless man named Dan came up. He was commenting on Sandy’s dog. I asked him questions about his life, his homelessness, his dog. At one point, he served our country oversees. As he was sharing, he stated that it was most important for him to feed his wife, his dog, and then himself. He showed me the food he’d found in the dumpster. He said, “People throw away perfectly good food all the time.” I offered him the candy canes I had in my pocket, but he said he needed to watch his figure.
He let me know where they sleep in the park. I’ll be walking with a friend today, so I’ll see if we can go visit them. God is so good! He loves so deeply, so uniquely. I love that he always has me around dogs. He’s softening my heart towards them, and it’s working.
