there’s so much excitement about moving
and then there’re things
that make me sigh

like going to new places
finding things funny
and laughing

if only it was subtle
if only I didn’t stand out
but I do

with my flags
with my testimony
with my laugh

most everyone likes it
but for those who don’t
I shut down

I can’t even stop it
I hear their comments
and feel laughter leave

and once it’s gone
I’m not sure how
to get it back
