Panic Mode
Yesterday was full of things to do: give Carolyn and Katie rides, continue with flags, straighten out the insurance stuff with the hospital, tend to my foot, etc., and often times, I expect myself to do everything, and when I don’t, I come down pretty hard on myself.
In giving the girls rides, I was expected to pick them up: Carolyn at nine at night and Katie at ten forty-five at night. Piece of cake, right?! Well, everything else in my day went pretty smoothly, but by the end of the night, I was tired and in pain.
When Nathan and I returned home from picking up Carolyn, it was time to change my bandage, so I set everything up. This time, after changing it, it hurt more than usual, so Carolyn suggested I lay down. I agreed because I had been tired and just wanted to sit up in bed and read with God. My phone was almost dead, so I left it charging in the living room.
Can you tell where this is going? Continue reading
Victorious Nightmare
Last night, I had the weirdest (and scariest dream). Here it goes.
It started off with the church marrying me, Carolyn, and someone else off, but I can’t remember who the someone else was. The church chose the people and set everything up. We were all sitting in a room, and then it hit me: I didn’t even know the heart of the person, which is super important to me, so we all took off, but before we did, we got a hold of the names of who we were to marry, so me and the kids went on a journey to see who the church had picked. Happiness Not Guaranteed
Okay, so I “know” that Disneyland has been known as the-happiest-place-on-earth, but that doesn’t guarantee that the people THERE are the happiest. If there WAS a guarantee, then Scott should get some money back because there were times when moods, attitudes, dirty looks, etc. were transferred amongst the kids. It could’ve been their ages, but I believe the emotions ran deeper than that. Continue reading
A Father’s Presence
Since Scott’s been staying with us, the past few days have been really nice. Kyle and Katie aren’t able to see their daddy that often, so when he comes to town, we make sure to spend as much time together as a family as possible. It is so fun to watch all of them interact, but last night, it was particular fun to listen to Kyle and Katie.
We’re all in the living room/kitchen/dining room area, and Kyle and Katie were closer to the kitchen, chatting, planning, scheming about Disneyland. They’re close anyway, but when their father’s in town, they seem closer, happier, more sure of themselves, and I woke up this morning with a revelation: of course they’re more like themselves; they’re in the presence of their father! And then God began to reveal to me how all HIS kids act, when they’re in His Presence. Continue reading
Unexpected Life
Kyle (my son) works security for a popular nightclub downtown, so he tends to get home really late (or really early). Yesterday, he told us some disturbing news that had a good ending…for us. Continue reading
What Faith is Like
I’m sure there are perfect Christians out there, who never agree with fear, never have doubt, never lose track, etc., but I’m not one of them, and yesterday, I made the mistake of looking at my bank account balance…never a good idea, but Nathan wanted some specific food from Sam’s Club, so I needed to check.
When I saw my balance, I thought, “Oh, no! What am I doing! How is this going to make sense! The kids depend on me. What am I going to do?, etc.” It was fast. It was accurate (to the world). It was NOT Kingdom living, and I got sucked right into it. It was crazy. Continue reading
Language of the Light
I love my kids and the way we love each other. It’s not perfect, but it’s real, and one thing we all care about is where each other is during the night, so we talk through the porch light, which speaks louder than words. Continue reading
The Makeup of a Smile
At Kyle’s graduation, I snapped these photos of Carolyn. I love the difference a smile makes and showed her what her eyes looked like with and without a smile. It reminded me of the Padres game I went to with Nathan the other night. Let me explain. Continue reading
