A Special One

Last weekend, during Activate, I was loving on people with a group in Carlsbad, and along our journey of love, we came across some artists, who had set up shop in a grassy area to display and sell their art. Have you ever encountered a moment when someone else’s passion touched a hidden part of your heart to where you KNEW it was from God? Let me take you to “my” moment.

Meet Amy Hurd:
As we were passing by this outdoor splendor of art, I was captivated by the pictures that were on display and felt compelled to meet the woman behind them. We started talking, and I asked her about her life. She looked a little surprised that I wanted to know and started walking me through different eras of her journey. She had had careers, lived different places, worked many hours, but was now retired, living through her passion in a fulfilling way…through pictures.

She captures different moments in time, puts them on a canvas and mounts them or creates cards out of them. They really were captivating. I imagine her as one of those photographers who holds her breath at the moment she snaps the shot in order not to disrupt that existence of time. Many of her pictures caught my emotions.

Me in the Arms of Jesus

When I came across this card, I think my breathing stopped. It was beautiful! My favorite flower is the tulip, and this picture displays the moment when Jesus’ blood touched me and the way my life is now. His blood makes me purely white. I am righteous. I am wholesome. I am redeemed. This is a picture of me living through Christ’s heart, and I HAD to buy it.

When I showed Henry, he said, “And look at the title.” …”Special One”… THAT’s what I am. That’s what we all are: special! On Easter, I have been asked to dance with my flags at Beach Chapel, and guess what? My family will be there. I’m going to dance in a red skirt, a white shirt, and with red and white flags, and I will be dancing for the Most Special One with this picture in mind, remembering all that He’s done for me, how red His blood is, and how white that makes me: holy righteous, redeemed. I am so excited!!

And the artist loved the testimony of my life that described her photo so well. It was a moment in time I hope not to forget. After I dance on Easter, I’m going to write in that card, frame it, and leave it for my kids, so they will always have the memory of what Jesus has done for me, and they’ll always have the meaning behind the picture.
