Warning Signs

Last night, I was blessed to hear Graham Cooke for the first time ever. It was an awesome night! And of course, in going to this kind of stuff, I was able to see amazing friends, which is the best part of going to some of these things. By the time I left, it was late, and I was tired, and as I headed toward the freeway, a cop sped ahead of me, going in the same direction…never a good sign.

As I joined the rest of the traffic, I realized the cop car was few cars ahead, flashing his lights, swaying back and forth along all lanes…slowing traffic to possibly stop. Sigh. I thought about exiting the freeway to find my way home, but I was way too tired for that, so I stayed, which was much easier.

As I was following slowly, I noticed all the cars in all the lanes. As the cop swayed to the left, the cars on the right edged forward. As the cop swayed to the right, the cars on the left edged forward. It’s like they were all waiting to gun it, as soon as they saw that the coast was clear.

And then I thought about the Holy Spirit.

How many times was He in front of me, “flashing His lights,” moving before me to slow me down (or possibly stop me), and there I was, looking for the opportunity to pass Him up, to do my OWN thing, along my own path, trying to create my own destiny, and all the while, He was trying to protect me! It was such a good lesson for me.

God’s plan for my life is the best, and He spoke to me in traffic for a reason. Maybe it was to reveal something from the past. Maybe it’s to prepare me for something in the future. Regardless, this revelation has heightened my awareness to watch for the Holy Spirit’s guidance in all areas of my life: when to move, when to slow down, and when to stop. God is always talking. I’m just the one not always listening.
