when beauty
that was never known
is lost
does it need to be found

beauty exists
in the current reflection
not in what once was
not in what could be

here and now
what beauty do you see

life may add on
years
and pounds
wrinkles
and grey

but life also adds on
wisdom
maturity (one hopes)
elegance to be
what’s been learned

if beauty lies in the eye
of the beholder
how wonderful when one
beholds their beauty
in their own eyes

those years when I was thin
had teeth
wore makeup
the inside of the cup
was filthy
nothing there to find
