Only the Beginning

When you think about it, each new day is the first day of the rest of your life, but yesterday seemed extra special to me, and since I’m not sure how to explain it in a few words, I’ll take you through the majority of my day.

I had asked for yesterday off for a purpose: to start a business. I’m not sure if anyone realizes how huge that was for me. Just thinking about it is bringing me to tears. Me…a business…? How did that even happen? When I think of my past, there was no future. Now I think of the future, and there is no past. Well, NOW there ‘s a past, but it’s full of life lived through God’s heart, and yesterday was no different.

I dropped Nathan off at school and went straight to the Recorder’s office to file my fictitious business name ($42.00). While I was there, I used my flag twice to show two different clerks. Everywhere I went, I showed my flags because people would say, “What are worship flags?” So I’d say, “Do you want to see?” And before they could say no, which none of them did, I’d be pulling it out. They were enamored and all thought this business would be successful.

My next stop was a newspaper. When you file a business name, you need to run a publication for four weeks ($41.00). This is solely for your protection. What the publication does is reserves your name, so that no one else may take it. After the four weeks, they send you an affidavit with your business name on it. I’m so excited!

Next stop…Lemon Grove City Hall. I found out that most cities have there own rules on running a business, and in order to sell things in that city, you must have a license. In this case, I needed a home business license ($61.75) because I’ll be making everything in my home. One lady wasn’t the friendliest about it, but the other lady loved my flag.

I had these three things done by 9:30 in the morning…talk about favor!

After taking Katie, I headed downtown to the Board of Equalization. I wasn’t sure why I needed to go but was told to go. In my search, I found two addresses, so I headed to the closer one, which was on Front Street. I found parking within a thirty seconds of pulling up to the building…amazing! As I entered the building, a security guard was sitting at the desk and explained to me that the office had moved (to the farther location) and told me it could be done online. I showed him the worship flag in action, and he was amazed. I blessed him and left.

Since I was downtown, I stopped by to say hi to Lee. I chatted with him and his friend for a little while and then started to leave. Lee hollered at me to come back. He said, “You’re so excited today, you’re bursting at the seams, figuratively and literally.” I chuckled and turned to continue walking. He hollered again, “Laura Lee, I’m telling you you’re bursting at the seams, figuratively AND literally.” OH! I felt my bottom and sure enough, I had split my pants at the seam. …time to go home.

After I changed, I went online and found I needed to go to the EDD office, so I left, stopped by Staples, and went by the senior home to ballroom dance with Emil, but their dates were off, so I stopped by the park to say hi to Lee again and ran into another one of God’s encounters.

Through my escapades at the park, I’ve been getting to know a P.E. teacher by the name of Alberto. We’ve been chatting for a while, so I stopped to say hi. He was so excited to see my excitement. He was so happy for me and explained what I looked like in my passion for God’s heart. He offered to teach me how to hit a baseball properly. He gave me three tries, and I hit every one. In the end, he ordered a flag…my first sale as a business!! I carried on towards Lee.

After sharing with Lee a little and listening to him a little, I was off to Poway to the EDD office. As much as I complain about doing stuff alone, while I’m in it, I really love it. It’s like an adventure. Well, that office was NOT the next step for me to take but they loved the business idea and sent me to BOE, so I was on my way again.

Finally, I made it to the Board of Equalization and left with a seller’s permit and found out that if I want to go anywhere and sell my flags [swat meet, street fair, farmer’s market, etc.], I need to obtain a seller’s permit for each address. This is just a way for the state to collect their taxes, so it was free. I left feeling like I accomplished so much in one day and made it home for a very important meeting.

When I arrived home, Clyde was waiting, and we had a planning meeting for our up and coming “Light Up Lemon Grove” worship nights/outreaches. We are so excited!! There will be more to come about that. The devils in East County should be very afraid because all hell will be loosed and all heaven will be released.

After all of that, I enjoyed a lovely evening with Katie and even went into Kyle’s room at times to make him laugh and hear his chuckle. That boy carries such good medicine! There was no way of sharing my day without posting a lot because it was so full of excitement, beginning, joy…so full of becoming Love and seeing a glimpse of the future through God’s adoring eyes. There is so much beyond…
