Christian Cliques

Yesterday, at the Dan Mohler healing conference, he encouraged everyone to meet and get to know people whom you’ve never met before. Sometimes, that seems easier said than done because people have their “groups” they’re happy with and only let those in who they accept or want to be around, but when I think about being in an army, I don’t believe the soldiers only stand next to the ones they like. They have a unity stronger than blood, which, at times, is missing within the church. Continue reading

Claiming Ground

You know, normally, I don’t “make” my kids go to anything at church, but when I heard Dan Mohler was going to be in town, I told Carolyn, “You’re going!” She saw the look in my eyes and said, “Okay,” so last night I took her to hear Dan for the very first time, and she’ll never be the same.

Even without hearing him, she’s been learning his teaching over the past year by listening and watching how I live my life. A little over a year ago, I began watching Dan’s fifty-one day teaching on YouTube, and it has taught me how to become love. Continue reading

Convenience of Prayer

Lately, I’ve been invited by some friends to dance at a church in La Mesa, and I’ve been welcoming their invitation to worship. This past Sunday after church, Corrie and I were coming out of a 7-11 convenience store, laughing (as usual).

Without knowing, we almost dressed identical, so we were joking about how everything was the same: our outfits were the same, our waters were the same, our Jesus was the same…as we were giggling and displaying this, a young man joined in, lifted his ice coffee, and said, “Our coffee is the same!” Well, to me, that’s an invitation to talk, so I stopped. The Language of Coke

On Monday, so much went on, and each moment deserves its own story, but sometimes, there’s not a moment to write, or God has me to wait. This morning, He’s asked that I tell you about a hospital visit that happened that day.

To bring you up to speed…I had read about a woman friend of mine praying about having to make the decision to have her leg amputated below the knee or not. When I read that request to pray for her, I thought, “What a decision to have to make!”, and my heart just opened up for her, and I began to pray.

When you pray for someone, you grow closer to them, so over the weekend, I felt for this woman and told the kids I wanted to go visit her. Our Sunday ended up being packed full, so I told them I’d be going on Monday, and that’s what I did. Continue reading

Room for More

Last night, Corrie was telling me about this amazing revelation she had. I asked, “Did you write about it?” She said, “No, you can tomorrow,” so here we go.

Corrie absolutely LOVES the beach: she loves the ocean; she loves the hiking; she loves watching her family; she LOVES the sand; and she loves collecting little rocks and sea shells. Well, at a recent time at the beach, she was on the hunt for some little rocks and sea shells but encountered trash instead. Continue reading

Living the Truth

The other day, one of the neatest and one of the worst things happened. Over the past year or so, I’ve been learning a lot more truth and have made it a point to live out all that I’ve learned: in church, on the streets, in my home, etc., and one thing I especially like is the way my kids learn at home.

I never make my kids go to church. I used to guilt them into going on Mother’s Day, Easter, and Christmas, but even that stopped. I never wanted to force them and always felt like it was my job to teach them at home.

When I say “teach,” I’m merely explaining how I live by example. I don’t set them down with a bible, paper, and a pen. I live what I believe and then explain why I’m living it. Sometimes, they don’t listen, but sometimes, they do. Continue reading

The Broken Road

Recently, I’ve been chatting with a dancer overseas, who hasn’t had the perfect life. I don’t believe many of us have, but one thing that’s stood out to me is how devastating it can be to live a life that seems like a broken road.

I wonder if that’s why Jesus is considered the “Bridge.” Continue reading

What’s in a Song

Recently, I heard a prayer like ‘God, I want to go wherever You go,’ and immediately, I felt differently…in a good way.

I realize we “follow” God and want to go wherever He goes, but it’s really only His voice we’re following because as Christians, He goes wherever WE go. Jesus lives in me…period, and wherever I step my foot, He goes. That’s why we go into dark places…because we release the Kingdom that’s inside of us.

I used to agree with almost everything I heard in church but not anymore. Continue reading

Coffee and Prayer

Well, I believe God is preparing me for more orders to pour in because, yesterday, my production tripled. Not only did I sew a bunch of flags, but two orders were delivered and one order was picked up. Bring it on, God; I’m ready!

As I was delivering flags, I planned to meet my friend at a coffee shop, which ended up being in a grocery store, so we changed our meeting place to an espresso shop in the same plaza.

While crossing the parking lot to wait for my friend, I noticed a woman smoking a cigarette, waiting for her friend to finish talking with people. I went up to her and started chatting with her. Continue reading
