“If the Shoe Fits, Take it Off”

if the kids are in the room
and I’m on the computer
I’m absent
not present

if I’m in the room
but on my phone
I’m absent
not present

being present involves eye contact
conversation
interaction
attention
response

how many times
have I heard Nathan say
‘you didn’t even hear me’
how many times
was he right

the truth hurts
so it’s easy to ignore it
and justify actions
with excuses

I plan to change my presence
