The Waiting Room

On Sunday evening, I received a message from Carlene Hernandez, asking for prayer for her husband. He was scheduled to have a procedure done the next day to put stents in his heart. Of course, I said, “Yes” and then went a step further. I asked if I could go with her. It was one of the BEST decisions I’ve ever made.

First off, sitting in a waiting room, waiting, could take decades, when you’re all alone. Having done this before, I wanted to be there for her. This isn’t a look-at-me-and-what-I-did. No, this is a story about two women, two friends, getting together and having a blast!

Seriously, we had so much fun!! We laughed the majority of the time, talked with each other, and talked to those around us.

Sometimes, it could be tempting to be alone because that’s easier, but let me tell you, friendships in heaven will change the atmosphere, and that waiting room was changed, not to mention…our hearts.

Both of us had been going through some toughness and both of us needed that ear. We didn’t even “vent.” We just talked and listened and joked and boy…did we laugh!! It was so good!

I wonder if that laughter released prayer. I wonder if our time together was communion with God. I wonder how many angels were present because when that doctor came out with the results, our minds were blown away but understood completely.

He came out with almost disappointment on his face. This was a doctor who KNEW “for sure” that stents needed to be put in, that that was the beginning of ANOTHER surgery needed. He came out, in disbelief, and said that the procedure wasn’t necessary and neither was the surgery.

What?!! I mean…OF COURSE! God is so good…so “last minute” sometimes! We just laughed some more.

As a matter of fact, even those near us received good reports about their loved ones. Hmm…things that make you go “hmm.”

Carlene, it was an honor to “wait” with you. Thanks for letting me be there!! I’d do it again in a heartbeat, but Alberto, don’t give us a reason to!
